Quilling in Peacock Colours

Before I talk about my quilling, I want to say how awesome it is to wake up on a snowy day to find my sidewalk, and part of my driveway (not all because my car was in the way), cleared of snow!  Oh, and the mean old snowplow had been by - that was done too!  Wonderful neighbour!

I recently had a request for three quilled ornaments to be done in peacock colours.  Cool, eh!!
So, I sent a pic of colours I thought might work....

People know what they want, and here's the end result.

I can't take the credit for these awesome colour combos.  I will say though, that I love the way the turned out!

The bottom of the ornaments - looking kinda funky!

That's all for today - now off to the market.

Christmas Ornaments

I'm guessing by now you know my passion for quilling. If you're new to my blog, welcome!
Please feel free to leave comments as your feedback is very much appreciated.
You can follow us here, on Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook.

Recently, I was at the Holiday Market sale in the wonderful city of Georgetown.  For me, it's not just about selling my crafts.  Connecting with people, and seeing their eyes light up when they first look at my ornaments - it's heartwarming.

As much as I love the combination of greens, reds and white, I've had a jolly god time testing out 'new' colours.

Christmas should be fun, filled with anticipation...and funky colours - yes!!

Why not blue and green.  The colours look so fresh!

Pretty pinks, and lilac. Love love love!

Gorgeous purples, and perhaps some greys too!

Back to the playful shades of orange.
Hmm, one of these things is not like the other (a throw-back to Sesame Street).  Doesn't it just pop with the collar of silver and red glimmer paper! (two thumbs up for Stampin' Up! for your fabulous glimmer paper)

Thank you for stopping by.  I leave you with this....

Christmas waves a magic wand over this world,
and behold,
everything is softer and more beautiful.

Cards I Made for My Mother

Removing belongings from the home of a loved one after their passing isn't easy.  I've gathered up a few things, including the cards I had made for mom.  I hadn't realized I'd given mom so many cards over the years. The memories are lovely.

Mom always had some of the cards on display, waiting for the 'proud mom moment' when she would say to her friends , "my daughter made these cards".  Some of the cards have yellowed and faded, some are a bit worn looking, but all are dear to me.  I made them for a special lady.

Here are some of the cards.

The one flower has moved.  I going to leave it that way.  What's weird (to me anyway), is that once I finished this post, I looked again at the cards and the pink flower has moved and is now just above the sentiment.

The above card is one of my all-time favourites, with the images stamped on watercolour paper  I had used Bister Powders to achieve the background colours.

Some of my early quilling in the above and below cards.  The sentiments have faded over the years from sunlight.

A simple birthday card.  Mom had noted the card wasn't white.  Seems like I use a lot of white cardstock.

I recall Mom staring at this card, and not wanted to hurt my feelings when she advised me the heart wasn't centred properly.  My feeling weren't hurt - I wanted the heart to be off centre, knowing that not everything in the world is perfect.  Quirky is good!

Another simple card.  Mom thought this card was so pretty.

I was surprised to find this card as I didn't recall making it.  I do recognize my quilling, though, so I know it's one of mine.

This card was made ages ago.  Super simple quilling. Inside I had written, 'I can't imagine who I would be without you.  I'm so grateful for everything you've done for me'.

Another 'ancient' card.

Truthfully, not my fave card, however I love the sentiment - Life is a matter of moments.
On the inside I wrote, 'Thank you for being in those moments'

Remember to cherish the moments in your life.  They are precious.

I think the beauty of making cards, for me, is they are made from the heart.  From love.
Making cards for my mom was just one of the ways to let mom know I loved her.

Christmas Quilling - A Few More Colours

Such a lovely day for a trip to Stratford Ontario.  My fellow retirees and I had delicious lunch at a restaurant called Sirkel.  It was super noisy, but the food made it worthwhile.  Then it was off to Rheo Thompson.  Mint Smoothies - my chocolate fix is complete.  Unfortunately my car started having electrical issues within a short distance from home.  I made it home though....whew!

Now to quilling - yay!  I've had so much fun playing with paper.  Here's a few of my new quilled ornaments in a few more colours.  As always, the glimmer paper is from Stampin' Up!

Grey, black and white.  I wasn't sure about these colours for Christmas, but I love the finished look.

I have no doubts about these colours - I love the freshness of the two shades of green with the white.

Snowy white with red and green - beautiful for the tree!

Without wheels for the weekend won't be such a bad thing.  More quilling time!

New Quilled Christmas Ornaments

Drum roll please.  Here are my new quilled Christmas ornaments.
I had brought the wood base quite a while ago, and when I saw them in my craft storage I was so happy - something new to quill - yippee!

These have been keeping me busy for the past couple of weeks!

What to do....what to do!!  These are smaller at the top than my other quilled ornaments, and I tried a few different collars until I finally figured it out.  It doesn't show in the pics - each ornament has three collars; two facing up, and one facing down. Ta da - problem solved.

Let me know what you think of my latest ornament.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks for stopping by!  Happy Crafting.

Christmas Quilling

Friends, I am super excited!!  All my Christmas Ornaments are made and ready for craft shows! I may have said that before...tee hee...but then I made more ornaments.  Apparently I can't sit idle!!

Along with traditional Christmas colours, I also made some of my quilled ornaments in a variety of other colours.  Kinda cool, eh!

I just love 'em!

Naturally, these are perfect for your tree, but how about as a centerpiece.
Host/Hostess gifts.
A gift for the teacher.
A keepsake ornament for yourself/children/friends.
So many possibilities!!

Quick and Easy!

It's been a couple of crazy weeks.  Mom was in the hospital again, but is back home safe and sound. I managed to get some quilling done for an upcoming craft show, however I haven't inked up any of my stamps lately.  I'd say bad me, but mom does come first.

What I have to show you is a cute project that's in the new Stampin' Up! Holiday Catalogue.  I also have great news - it's quick and easy!!

Pretty cute, eh!  Easy peasy!

Throw Back Thursday

Wow - September 1, it's a gorgeous day, and I'm reminiscing.  A long time ago, or, rather, a long, long, long time ago, when I was 15 or 16,  I went on a Caribbean cruise with my parents.  Oh boy, I remember the precise moment the ship left port for the first time. We were having late night snacks at the buffet, the ship barely started moving and I headed back to the cabin 'sea sick'.  Thankfully it didn't last and I got my sea legs quickly.  Yay!

The picture below was taken by my mom, and that's my dad and I on the deck.  Check out the wide legged jeans I'm wearing - eek!  Anyway, in the background is Columbia.  We didn't leave the ship that day as we could hear gunfire, and that's not my 'cup of tea'.

It was a great trip and such a wonderful experience.  We had taken trips to the islands before, but this was the first cruise.

Thank you for stopping by and taking a wee trip back in time with me.

This Is It - Retirement!

Yesterday was my last day of vacation, and that means, as of today, I'm truly officially retired.

You're heard retired people say they don't know how they had time to work.  I'm one of them.  How easily a day fills up with so many things to do!  I don't have a to do list - I think I'd be discouraged seeing what I think would be a lengthy list.

I found lots of cute retirement images online and I'll share some of my favourites here.

Yes, let the adventure begin.

Kids Help Phone

I'm feeling sad this afternoon.  I don't have a card, ornament or art to share with you.  Please read on...

Please support the Kids Help Phone. Today I had a runaway at my door asking to use my phone to call the Kids Help Phone. I dialed the number for her and sat outside with her while she was waiting in the queue. I talked to her asked a few questions. Unfortunately, after 20 minutes she was still waiting and was getting frustrated.. She hung up and thanked me, then left. I called the police to make a report. Turns out there is a missing girl matching her description. I wish she had been able to speak to someone at the Kids Help Phone. I wish a lot of things - wish I had known what to do, what to say to her. Please support the Kids Help Phone - kids want to talk!.

It's Quiller Time!

Here we are, part way through August, and it's a rainy day in paradise. I like the rain and how the grass and trees look so much greener than when it's dry.  Like many other cities and towns in Ontario, we and especially our farmers really need rain, however, not the potentially damaging winds.  Be sure to please stay alert, stay safe.

Now, on to some crafty bits.  I took my Quilled Creations quilling papers to the cottage last weekend and in the evenings was able to get some loose circles made, and the results are below.  Clearly not complete, but a very good start!

I was going to title this post 'One of These Things is Not Like the Other', until the current title popped into my head, which, by the way is funny becasue I'm not a beer drinker.  I do apparently remember tv ads!

Well, this is the official start to my Christmas craft making! I love love love homemade and handcrafted Christmas crafts and ornaments!

Thanks for stopping by!  Happy happy crafting!

Cottage Life

For the past few days my sister and I have been at the family cottage enjoying the quiet life.  On the day we arrived, Georgian Bay was tame, with barely a ripple.  I love how peaceful it is at the cottage. So dark at night.  Choose to do nothing or everything.

We went on a day trip to Collingwood, Ravena, Thornbury and Meaford.  Lovely and scenic!  I wish I'd taken more pics!

I thought these looked so pretty!

What a great name for a restaurant.  This is in Meaford.

The highway from Thornbury to Collingwood.  The Blue Mountains are ahead!

I couldn't resist.  This huge cup is at a gas station in Collingwood. To get an idea how big it is, check out the fence in the background.

On our second day the waves were gigantic and we had so much fun in the water.  Those were mighty strong waves!  Waste deep water and waves over our heads, resulting in us moving to shallower water.  I think we stayed in the water almost an hour and we would have stayed longer except it looked like a storm was headed our way.

Turns out the rain was headed our way, and lots of it shortly after we arrived in Creemore.  Below are a few pics from shops in town.

My fave bookstore.

Just sitting outside a cafe, enjoying a delicious cinnamon bun.

Check out the giant chocolate chip cookie!! Nope, I didn't buy it.

Same shop - giant meringues!

Getting ready to leave Creemore.  Lots of rain!

Next stop, Glen Huron.  Love the country market.  Excellent freshly baked blueberry scones. Yum!

Oh no....more rain.  We're still at Giffen's Country Market.

Beach pics from today.

It isn't often my sister and I get away so it was nice to be able to spend time together.

Oh...and it wasn't a craft free weekend - I brought my quilling with me!

Thanks for stopping by!  Happy Crafting!
