Watercolour Fun! Happy Birthday to You

The Whisper White base & layer embossed using the Scripty 3D Embossing Folder are the perfect subtle backdrop for the focal point of the card - the flowers.

I've tried several different watercolour papers but wasn't satisfied with the results, so I finally purchased the Fluid 100 Watercolour Paper from Stampin' Up! LOVE it!

If you haven't bought it, I urge you to - you won't be disappointed!

When watercolouring, I prefer to heat emboss so the colours stay inside the lines, and used White Embossing Powder for the cake & flower image.  It's still magic to me!!

With the image heat embossed, it was time to colour!  You'll need an Aqua Painter! 

The cake & leaves are both Basic Gray, full strength, and watered down.  I used Real Red & Melon Mambo for the flowers, and watered down Melon Mambo for the cake stand.  

Play with the colours - start light and add more ink to darker and give depth.  Your cards will have that gorgeous watercolour look!

I used the the Birthday Dies to cut out the image.

I hope after viewing my video you're inspired to start water colouring!

Before adhering the Whisper White embossed layer, I attached Silver Metallic Thread to the layer, using glue dots.  Looks like I went around the layer 5-6 times with the thread.  Love the look!

Next, I cut out a piece of Basic Gray cardstock using the largest Stitched Circle Die.

Then die cut leaves & sprigs from the Birthday Dies in Whisper White, Basic Gray & Silver Glimmer Paper., then using Glue Dots, attached them to the flowers & cake.

TIP:  when adding leaves etc, to group them in 3's.

Dashing Deer - Stamping Symphony Blog Hop

I'm just back from OnStage in Orlando, celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Stampin' Up!  With 6,000 demonstrators from all over the world, you know it just had to be FUN!!  Oooh, and we received lots of freebies - an awesome perk for attending conferences.  Prize Patrol is the best, especially when it's stamps from the upcoming Occasions Catalogue & Sale-A-Bration Flyer! This is the card I made for our blog hop using the Dashing Deer stamp set from the Holiday Catalogue, and it's super quick & easy to make!

How to make this card (measurements are in inches):

Cut Merry Merlot cardstock for the base of the card - 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, and scored it at 4 1/4.

Next use the little stamp from Dashing Deer, and do some tone on tone stamping, in Merry Merlot.

Cut Copper Foil at 2 1/2 x 5 3/8, then cut Joyous Noel DSP  2 3/8 x 5 1/4  & adhere the 2 pieces using Multi Purpose Liquid Glue.  Use Dimensionals to pop up this layer.

Cut Copper Foil paper with the Starburst punch.

Cut Copper Foil paper with the Everyday label punch, then cut in half using Paper Snips.

Stamp the sentiment from Dashing Deer in Merry Merlot onto Shimmer Paper, then punch using the Everyday Label punch. Adhere the 2 halves of the Copper Foil punched pieces to the sentiment.

Adhere the Copper Starburst to the card, about half way under the layer.

Cut a 4 1/2 piece of Burlap Ribbon & trim the ends like a banner, then adhere using Snail adhesive.

Adhere the sentiment layer.

Almost done!

Cut Whisper White cardstock at 4 1/8 x 5 3/8

Stamp the sentiment & deer from Dashing Deer using Merry Merlot ink.

Adhere using Multi Purpose Liquid Glue.
